Universal compositions are compositions that are true to many methods or a large number of False Course Head Groups. In 2001, the Central Council published a comprehensive Collection of Universal Compositions for treble-dodging Major methods.

Although many of these universal compositions are true to a large number of False Course Head Groups, it does not necessarily mean that they are true to a large number of methods, so this led to the question Which compositions are true to the most methods that have been rung?. Using the Composition Library software Demo, Graham John tested some compositions against the rung method collection and discovered that the 5056 for B Group methods by Albert J Pitman is true to 75% of rung B Group TD methods, an incredibly high proportion for one composition.
