Northern Universities Association

The Northern Universities Association or NUA is a loosely-organised collection of university ringing societies from the north of England (loosely interpreted as being "north of Warwick"). It also encompasses the Scottish university societies.

At present, the NUA holds one meeting a year: a weekend event, usually from the Friday evening to the Sunday afternoon immediately following Remembrance Sunday. The weekend includes a 6-bell striking competition, a ringing tour, often a ceilidh, and plenty of beer.

The host Society is decided at the previous year's meeting during a usually heated debate. The Society who gives in first or offers has the opportunity to arrange the following year's meeting.

Affiliated Societies

Bristol have also been stalwart attendees at NUA events for the past decade or so, and recently other Southern universities such as Cambridge and Surrey have also attended. The Welsh university societies have their own association, the Welsh Colleges Society, but sometimes also attend the NUA.
